HELP: NC Transplant and College Basketball.

I know a lot of cyclists are anti ball sports, but how do you pick a college basketball team to follow if you are a transplant? So many teams to choose from. I need some background information.

Coming from NJ, I see UNC as the Yankees of college baseketball, everyone likes them, they don't do anything bad, etc.
This Grayson Allen kid seems to be causing drama, which is interesting to watch.

It's easy. You just root for whoever is playing Duke.

If you're a UNC fan, as I am, you hate Duke.  And the other way around.  And as I keep telling my friends that live in SC, there's only one Carolina, and they wear blue  Smiley

Its easy...

Sell your TV to buy more bike parts. Then you dont have to worry about who to pull for haha. Never understood folks sitting at home staring at at TV for hours and hours. I dont care if Jesus is playing Bill Murray and its in triple OT, if its sunny and dry Im riding bikes.

But yeah... in this area its either Duke or UNC with an occasional NC State or SEC school fan sprinkled in. Both UNC and Duke are elitist schools with douchey tendencies (says the guy with a South Carolina avatar) so pick your poison...

I guess you were still up north when UNC had the academic scandal of 3 or 4 years ago? Fake classes for athletes, tutors writing their papers for them, etc. So much for 'student athletes'.

I just alienated half of the THTB boards and will likely get flamed for the next several months. That's another reason I hate UNC.  Grin

UNC is home to the best college basketball coach of all time (Dean Smith) and the greatest player of all time, Michael Jordan.  I could go on but I'll stop there...

Go heels!

I'm sure this goes in some form in more colleges, they just got caught

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

Thats the thing, wasn't a big basketball fan at really, especially college. It's a pretty big deal down here, I normally wouldn't even watch...

Coming from NJ I was a Rutgers fan, just because of how close it was. It was a good run in 2006 and 2007, now that they lost 78-0 and 58-0 in back to back games, it was easy to not watch anymore Tongue

Clemson did it years ago back in the late 80's.

I personally have a highly technical and strategic way of choosing a ball of baskets college team.

It's a secret, but I'll let you know that it involves a hat and strips of paper with college team names on them. Wink

Michigan or Michigan State. State played Duke in the Final Four Championship a few years back. Duke won, but they won playing in Detroit in front of 60,000 fans Cool

My troll detector is going off the charts.  That university in Durham is New Jersey South.

Considering the timing of this post, it makes me ask- are you looking for a team to root for season after season or are you looking to fill out a bracket and find a team to pull for winning the whole tournament this year?

I'm originally a midwesterner, I went to SIU.  We made it t the tournament a few times but haven't had an appearance in over a decade.  Even if they made the tournament I wouldn't pick them to go past the first round because I make my picks based on who I think will win, not who I hope will win.

When it comes to the local feud, I side with UNC.  I don't care for the image I get from Duke or their fans.  I'm not saying UNC is a perfect team, but in general I can relate to UNC.

All that said, its time to fill out a bracket.

Maybe someone should start a bracket challenge for the trailblazers.... Just for fun/bragging rights.  Any interest?

NC State Wolfpack.  Because they are a great agricultural, mathematics and engineering school.  And my niece graduated with math honors from there and now doing her phd at Washington University in St. Louis studying proteins. Smiley

That and who the heck can forget this!!  1983 NC State wins the NCAA championship with a bada** allyoop!!
