So would be interested to hear your thoughts on the recent ongoing trail work at Anne Springs. I did a quick search and couldn’t find a previous forum on the topic so apologies if this is a rehash. I have been riding this trail for a couple of years now and overall it’s been a good challenge - some technical parts with a good balance of roots and rocks. Sad to see Sugar close but looking forward to the newer trail build out. Have always been appreciative of the trail work in the past. Recent non-Tarheel trail work (particularly on School) seems to have widened the single track and made it more groomed and flowy but less of a challenge. The trail name suggests greenway but not sure if that’s the future intent. Any insight?

Sugar was still open on Sunday but have heard that trail will close sometime in the future (perhaps April/May) but suggest you to take that up with ASC or the current trailbuilders for specifics. Was interested to hear if future trail maintenance will be an extension of past diversity or if it will take on the new build out form of widening, flowy and less of a challenge.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

Sugar is not closed yet and the new trails weren't open as of last week.  They have reworked School Loop West and it has great flow.  They have dumbed it down a lot.  The new trails all look pretty flowy.

I'll miss Sugar, but I think I like have a trail like this close to many to balance the more rooty trails I also ride.

my understanding from talking to one of the gate guards was that the new trail work will try to compensate for the lost mileage of Sugar.  The trail that is being built and the grooming that has been done is definitely smoother, which I don't like much, but my assumption it will be get a little more character as it wears in.  It is fast and flowy, which is good.

It's seems like you're hijacking every thread these days to make some sort of "Fisher is hard and only real men ride it statement".   Huh  Wink

I've seen pics of the new trail build out there, looks like a fun trail to ride bikes on to me.  If it gets easy then just go faster  Cool

Good to know.  Funny i recall hearing the Sugar closing warning sometime last year so i went out there and rode a whole bunch of times in anticipation and... it still isn't closed. At least it was time well spent.  Sugar is a benevolent trail, sacrificing itself so that future Fort-Millionaires can pack themselves into comically large houses with postage stamp size yards.

Best description of these ridiculous houses being built these days. You can literally pass a plate of food in between the windows.

Think of it this way; it takes a smaller amount of woods aka trail to house the people... Imagine if all those people all wanted 2+ acres of land!

And what's wrong with that?  Saves the cost of a telephone call.  Ring it once, open the windows, have a conversation, and some cookies!   Wink

That's the paradox of the modern suburban urbanites.  They want to move out of the 'big city' to the 'small town' but not to get access to land.  But hey, if they are content with a 3,000 sqft house on .18 acres and we get more trail, I guess everybody's happy.

Has anyone ridden Baxter lately?  That's the way to build a neighborhood.  Around your trail.

Yes, I frequent it. Usually get a 12 mile loop. It's a bit of a hidden gem right through the neighborhoods. It's more of a challenge with the roots and climbs. Not fast and flowy.

Or Grey Poupon.

One neighbor to the other...  "Pardon me, but would you happen to have any Grey Poupon"... "But of course."   Smiley
