One more reason to buy at LBS vs big box store...

Anyone see the printed Target ad April 30th -May 6th, 2017 (I think this ad is printed for national distribution too)?  If you didn’t notice, the stem is bolted to the fork 180 degrees out of place (fork is shown assembled backwards). Grin Grin Grin

BTW, they have already corrected the photo online (I’ll save you the time in looking for it).  I’d attach the photo, but this part of the forum doesn’t allow attaching files. Wink

WTF Target???  While I love my Super Target in Steele Creek for groceries, beer, dog treats, TP, etc. (did I say beer)…. It would take a zombie apocalypse before I would consider a bike at a big box store.  Let’s give all of our local bike shops business and let the big box stores handle the toilet paper!!! Smiley

This is actually a fun game...

Go to walmart, target, dick's, etc,... any place that sells &^&^ty bikes and try to see how many have forks on wrong, brakes set up improperly, loose bars/stems.

Its really amazing that more people dont get hurt on these things. And some of those box store bikes arent cheap relatively speaking. Save another few hundred $ and get a bike at your local LBS. They will fit you and you can bet you'll get a better bike, better service, etc.

I was doing a team bike building event for a management group recently. When they were all trying to assemble their bikes i gave them the "here is another reason why you should buy bikes from a local bike shop, there are people just like you assembling the bikes at the department store." It definitely got their attention.

I think it's funny when I see people purchasing these bikes and making up their minds based on the seat. They like a certain bike, but deside on a different one because of the saddle. Nobody even offers to switch out seats. I saw a girl returning a bike because the wheel was bent. And they replaced it with an even cheaper looking bike. But I guess no matter how they look, they are all the same. I usually just stand back and chuckle when I see folks buying these bikes. But one time I did butt in during a sale. The attendant raised a seat so I, that I knew it was above the minimum line. When I looked at the post in the tube, I could see space in the top of the seat tube. The customer believed me for a sec , until the attendant told him that the line ment it was for taller folks and you could use the space at the bottom for fitting. Roll Eyes

There's a couple people at work here that think the size of a bike is comparable to buying a bigger car. In other words, they want to expand the junk they were given with a substitute. One guy who went to a bike shop, was given a frame size they said he should ride. He then told me, that they were trying to insult him. He said he liked a bigger bike, which in his case the shop suggested a 52 cm. He ended up getting a 60cm at a used shop. He claimed it was a 27". He said he felt he had more control on bigger bike Cool Another guy wanted a carbon fiber Trek. The bike shop fitted him for a 54 cm. He then found a 56cmon criagslist. He told me that he liked to be stretched out.He put a wider gel seat on. I'm surprised he has clipless pedals on the bike. But he said that you couldn't change the pedals on that bike. Does Trek make a bike that has pedals permanently attached? Anyways, about being stretched out, he doesn't ride it a whole lot, because it gives him a backache. But he says that since it's a race bike, he was told that he shouldn't ride it a whole lot because it could hurt your back😝

In all fairness if you are looking for a bike in BBS you are probably not serious about cycling.

How's that?  I seem to have lots of "serious" cyclists buying and have "serious" bikes serviced. Smiley
