School me on baggies

Never worn them, always just wore bibs for road and mountain rides. I picked up a ss to cruise around town, and don't want to flaunt my man bits at the coffee shop if you know what I mean.

I thought about just throwing gym shorts on top of my bibs, but I feel like that would make all kinds of chafing. So can I just buy the "over shorts"  part of a pair of baggies, or will they ride up/slide down while pedaling? I know legit baggies have the liner part that snaps in to them so that they wont move around.

Don't need a closet full, just a pair or two. Any advice is appreciated!

Zoic. Good price and you can get them with or without a liner.

Cargo shorts from Gander Mtn, cheap with plenty of pockets.

Board shorts / swimming trunks work great as they dry fast if you get sweaty (without liner of course).  I started with baggies with liners ( (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)).

I found the liners to suck and not fit correctly (I'm a bigger guy and they were too loose in the waist but way to tight on the bottom of the legs) but am very please with the outer shorts as they are both stretchy and quick drying.  I now wear bibs under them for comfort if I want to wear baggies.  Walmart carries a very similar type of short with draw strings vs a button for like $8, once again I like the "swimming trunk" type material over the polyester wick type material.  I like these too its just that sometimes the draw string finds itself back in the hole for the drawstring during a wash which is a PITA.

These are my go to shorts, lightweight, useable pockets, relatively cheap, with a comfortable gel chamois. I never bother snapping the liner to the outer shorts and they never shift around on me.

I have also worn these. They are a little heavier and longer, maybe a little too "baggy". The "comfort chamois" is crap though. I still wear the outer shorts on cooler night rides.

I've worn columbia water shorts for years, with the mesh liner.  I've got some zoic mtb shorts but on my legs they are too constricting.  In the winter they feel ok, the material is thick so they trap heat.   The only time I've had issues with the columbias is when I've gone swimming mid-ride (dupont).  They trap moisture and cause problems if you've got several miles to go.

Thanks for the replies so far fellas, I have a Dicks Sporting nearby so I may go check them out first. I do have some swim trunk type bottoms I can try out as well, so are you guys wearing padded shorts/bibs under them or no?

Sorry, just realized I posted the same link twice in my previous post. The second link was supposed to be for the Zoic Ether shorts. I fixed it.

Also, yes. I always wear the padded shorts underneath.

To me .. baggies that do this = are too loose or are too breezy too free..   tighten up the shorts game

For myself =under 10 planned miles = no chamois.. Longer day + 8-10 miles or more full chamois.

a specific bike short will be taylored better for their purpose vs a gym short...

Zoic  = YES.
Cannondale Shorts = YES
Fox = YEs

I've never found the need to spend the extra dough on baggies and mtb specific shorts. I usually just rock some industrial dickie shorts (relaxed fit  Wink and under $20) with padded undershorts.

I got about three pair of the Zoic Ester Shorts, and a couple pair of specialized that I bought on closeout last year. I have some primal that the inner shorts are sewn in, but they are my favorite for riding during the week. I find nothing is as good as bibs though. If I go in for a post ride brew, I really don't care what's showing , you ever see some of the females out there sportin those tights Shocked

I've moved from the Zoic's, Spesh, and other bike specific brands to Prana Zion shorts. They're stretchy and abrasion resistant.

I have long worn your common spandex padded riding shorts underneath lightweight shorts.  I pretty sure the padding is silicone.  My current favorites for the top shorts were bought last Summer/Fall at Costco for ~$14, and I picked up several pair in a few colors.  I wear the shorts in every day use and don't only have them for riding.  They look nice and have held up well.  They are great for yardwork since they are much cooler than a heavier cargo, my other favorite type.  In fact, I am wearing a pair now and have been mowing.  Don't you feel great knowing this?

These have become my go to shorts (commuter, pisgah, wilson, local, barhopping). No extra material to flap around but still has room to move, durable, comfortable, fashionable. I wear my bibs under them and only time i do not wear the shorts is when racing and i am bibs only. I wear shorts because i am always catching my bibs and ripping the butt on the seat or catching briars and ruined too many bibs to unauthorized access holes. No issues with these shorts at all and they are well worth the extra coin without making you look like an enduro freestyle dirtbag.
