What are these plants? (neighbor)

Hey peeps,

Yeah!  I have returned hoping that the community here can help again.  This time is for a friend.  He's looking to prune, possibly back considerably.  So, we want to identify the plants to determine when during the year is most ideal and what the tolerances are for each plant.  Does anyone know the type for each of the two plants shown among the photos below?  I suspect both are builder-planted and went in around 2002/2003.

Thanks,
-Clay

Plant 2 can't be killed.  It will one day take the house over and the owners will be forced to move out.  I would cut away.

Seriously my parents have them in there backyard.  They grow extremely quickly and require constant cutting or their is no stopping it.  They always called them "Russian olive bushes" but I'm not sure if that's the right name.  Definitely the same plant though.

Second one looks to be a Elaeagnus.  possibly a Silver Elaeagnus.  Are the bottom of the leaves silverish color??

I believe the first one is some type of English Laurel.

Uglyagnus as I call it can be killed, but takes quite a bit of industrial roundup, not the ordinary kind.  I had 4 of those bushes in my back yard at one time and it took some doing to finally get rid of the damn things

Cut it down to a stump and then paint the top of the stump with un-diluted round up.

If that wont kill it you should just move.
