I have two fantastic bikes... one 160mm dual squishy and one fine a$$ed steel hard tail with a somewhat flexy 32x140mm fork.  Both of these are of the 26" wheel flavor of bicycle.

I ride them very hard... and tend to find the limits of my chosen components.

I find that it is nearly impossible to find decent "quality" components to replace the broken pieces.  As a result I have two bikes that are functionally exceptional but cannot be maintained because the consumable components are no longer manufactured.

I need to replace the fork on the hard tail as the 32mm stanchions are just too flexy when pushed hard.  TRY and find a new 26" fork.

The squishy needs a new set of wheels... I somehow managed to break the rear axle and a couple of spokes on a otherwise bullet proof 26" Mavic wheelset.  Something that should only cost about a hundred dollars to fix.

Well I can no longer purchase reliable higher end components...  so unless I want to shop at walmart for replacement wheels or forks or whatever... I have to throw away these bikes and purchase new efing bikes.

DJ bikes are alive and well. You can get a 26" Pike or Fox 36, and there are plenty of rims still out there. If you need a straight steer tube, you may well be screwed.

I feel your pain. I've got a 2002 top end bike from one of the major mfrs and some replacement parts are no longer available, even from aftermarket mfrs. Ebay may be the last place to get such parts. To get a chain ring about 3 years ago I had to buy an entire used crankset off ebay (the chainrings were better than the one I was trying to replace). I also bought a pre-loved 26" Rockshox Sid dual air fork on ebay. I'm still using both of them, tho it's been my backup bike for a while now. It may not be ideal, but it's a source.

I got a used 26" pike from pinkbike recently, one benefit of all this crap is that the parts that are still around are pretty cheap.

I also bought a new set of 26" wheels... Hope Enduro which are pretty decent. New Tires too. Everything else of compatible so I haven't found it to be a problem.

I'm hoping to ride my 26" Nomad for a while yet... I just like the way it rides so I feel no need to change.

I'm still on a  Gen 2 Nomad that I bought new 5 years ago.  I've ridden new bikes that I liked, but not enough to get rid of my current one.  I'm going to stick it out for a couple more years if I can before purchasing a new bike.  All my components are in pretty good shape so it's possible that it will last until then, maybe longer.

I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of love for 26'ers, but what can you do when bike manufacturers are telling us what we want...?
