Join us for Trailwork this week at Ballantyne

Saturday 8/19
8:30am - 11:30am
Park at the shed on the bojangles pavilion parking lot

We will be still packing up the trail, cutting a few roots. Close to finalize the intermediate loop but we need more help. Any amount of time works!

Bring gloves and water.

Thank you!

I was out at the trail tonight and it was still pretty wet. In the process of picking up branches and limbs I discovered a shovel over by the turn with the unfinished drainage channel in the berm. Since there was about 4" of standing water in the turn, a section of drainage pipe, and a misplaced Tar Heel Trailblazer shovel all in the same location I took it upon myself to open up the channel, insert the pipe, put in a bit of armoring so the lower section of berm could be ridden once dry and covered it back up so the upper section of berm is back to being smooth. Is it perfect- no. Is it better than it's been for the last month - yes it is. Only had about an hour of daylight to work with and I hope the effort will be appreciated in the spirit it was intended. I'll try to get over to the work day this weekend to put a bit more work in and will bring the wayward shovel along as well. BTW the new intermediate section of trail is great. Can't wait to see the expert section when it gets finished.

Thanks for doing that.  Alex had removed that pipe only to find it was full of bees. I think that's why the shovel is still there. With all going on around the new trail we hadn't gotten back out there to repair it yet. Thanks for taking the time.

Glad to help out. Would have just been wrong to walk past that set up and ignore it. Almost felt like a test when I first saw the shovel. Sounds like I got lucky and trail karma (or 2" of rain) took care of the bees. Probably needs a few rides, some more rock and a bit of dirt tomorrow to really finish the job. Not sure what time I can get out there tomorrow am but I'll see you there at some point for sure.
