Bike Commuter Route Suggestions Needed

I'll throw this out to the masses and hope for the best.  I have a coworker who lives in Highland Creek and wants to commute by bike to the Music Factory.  When he asked for suggestions I told him to move into the city.  Assuming he won't don't that, I'm trying to help find a safe bike route in.  Any route suggestions that don't lead to immediate death by smart phone distracted SUV drivers would be greatly appreciated.

Pass this map along to your friend.  It shows a "bicycle suitability" index of local of the major roads.  You can also toggle on greenway layers, a bike lane layer, etc.

Mallard Creek/Sugar Creek to Graham maybe? There's also the Mallard Creek Greenway, but I don't think that will help much.

Whenever the Blue Line opens up, that will go from the University area to downtown.

Dang. I spend some quality time on "fair" to "poor" routes.

There's also a "planned greenway" right through the lake at Beatty.  Huh

Lol  Grin  Lots of the long range "planned" lines just follow streams, and I guess thats where the old stream center line was before the lake was built.

N Graham is the best 'direct' ride in  from Derita down south ( have done myself
... But  Tight (no bike lanes technically) And traffic.

Light rail /Crosstown trail will HELP  in the future   But then you have to get from Highland Creek to Univerisity = 6-7 miles in itself. (with greenway use)  Not open til spring 2018 potentially.

The north Light rail will also help that same commute in the future too... but just have to wait for it to open = Ride to the University = board the train = All the way to uptown..  Problem solved.

I would suggest  to give this ride a 'pre ride' on a nice  calm quiet Sunday morning.. Its a pretty long haul =   then add 3 - 5x more traffic on a ' weekday traffic time.     and HOME  26 miles per day is Truckin!

Google maps also suggests N Grahm or Old Statesville   at 1 hr 15 min  = 13 miles.
