Figure I'd post this, more eyes out the better. Pretty unique bike, I doubt it will ever hit the trails again, but if anyone sees it around.

I've got a detailed description, but basically black with red letters Raleigh XX1X+g stolen.

Had some nice parts on it.

Good point. Near i485 and 16 - Mt Holly Huntersville Road. Closest trail is the USNWC.

DAMN I HATE AN 'EFING THIEF.

Was it stolen from your house?  WWC is a good place for thieves to take inventory since there are so many riders there on a constant basis.  I always try to watch for someone following me home from the trails...  (Is it paranoia if they ARE out to getcha).

Be vigilant folks... keep your garage doors down... don't leave your bike on the rack for all the world to see.

It was taken from my garage. A contractor was working, had the doors open and I guess they came by and nabbed it. Second one for me in less than 6 months. Someone tried to rip my bike off my rack while at Pizzahut in Wadesboro. Parked with it in view, it was double locked so they didn't get it.  Yes, stay vigilant and don't trust the locks on your rack. They can be opened with a screwdriver or generic rake pick as quickly as a key.

Are you sure it wasn't the contractor...  I rarely let them in my garage... just saying.

Probably not, but they could be liable, if they touched it and it wasn't there when they left - that's their fault. Sad thing is that was my kid tow along bike and loaner/backup. It had the trail-a-bike hitch on it, so I've got to pick up a new one of them. Had just detached the tow along so at least they didn't grab that, or if it was hooked up it'd have been harder to handle.

Regardless it's registered in the NCIS stolen database now.

Bummer that I got the fork from YellowDuck as a backup since 1 - 1/4" straight steer 100mm forks are getting harder to come by.

It is what it is. Posting on Craigslist now.

Found the bike!!! Some neighborhood kids rolled right by the house on it.  Dropped it as soon as they saw an adult coming for them.  They probably could have gotten away quicker if they would have learned how to shift gears.

Great news. You are a lucky man. Hope you took a moment to discuss the finding with their parents. What I would call a teachable moment

You missed the best parts of the story out. Like, how you noticed a portly kid riding a bike that was too small. The chase, the burnout, the honking and them running into the woods.

Yes, I count it as lucky. Happy it was just stupid kids. I guess you have to be pretty dumb to ride past the house on a dead end street on a stolen bike while the people you stole it from were working outside.

Shocked

Running to the car....(i hate running) Then Stripping Mud boots.

Keys in ignition and Vroom to Peeling Wheels + Chasing after + recovery absolutely justified every modification to the Volvo Estate that was done!

Keep an eye out you will see them again!... Keep your security up too!
Kid probably pooped his pants too!  Grin
