As a former northerner I'm kinda hoping we get some decent snow and if it's below freezing to hit the trails on the fatty.  Anyone else? Cheesy

If it does snow (and I hope not) most of the trails in the area will be closed.  There a a couple that are open most of the time but that's about it.

I have lots of snow here and it is 20 degrees! I'm coming to NC Saturday and I'm going back home on Sunday if I don't get stranded by bad weather. No time to ride up here since I'm working tomorrow.

Fat biking in real snow conditions is something you could try up in the Pisgah area. Or maybe just hunker down with some IPA and Hooters!

In my experience fat biking is best done on groomed trails prepped for it.

I have fat biked in Bent Creek and up and down the Parkway and its ok. If you're laying down first tracks in 10"+ of snow its not fun at all... Mostly hike-a-bike.

The XC skiers here really have the best time since you can skin up the Parkway or gravel roads and cruise back down. As long as the snow is deep enough and you stay off the pavement/gravel.

I just read DuPont trails are closing ahead of the storm on Sunday. Maybe try Salem Lake in Winston Salem. Or Greenways before the snow melts. Maple Sally Rd up in Mortimer might be hip. I'm a former northerner also. Not a whole lot of snow activities in this part of the country. I noticeably that they have added snow biking to a couple of the large cross country ski events up north. The fat tire bikes did not exist twelve years ago when I moved here. I knew a guy who did Idibike in Alaska, and he wielded two rims together to get a larger tire footprint. I used to do the Iceman in Northern Michigan. Although the event was really fun. I never thought riding in the snow was very fun

Problem around here is the snow falls on ground that isn't frozen so it's just another semi solid layer of moisture on top of already wet trails.
