I prepare my gelpack with organic maple syrup. It's a sugar boost with a lot of good minerals.

Nothing.

For me, I just never saw the utility of carrying unnecessary things on suburban trails.

I drink enough black coffee and green tea every morning to fill up a camelbak or two. So, I'm looking for a place to pee, not more to drink.  Smiley

If you see a bottle on my bike, most of the time it's empty.

I can attest to that; this guy is an animal.  I think he has some camel DNA.   Grin

My moms from west Texas.

You've got to be a little crazy to live out there. That place is hot, dry as a bone and everything smells like motor oil.

My dad always claimed I got too much of that.   Cool

Yes Camel Back pack for tools and cell phone -( maybe some Tunes!)

I like you dont do liquid on the bike
Unless its super Hot out and going 10or more miles away from  civilization

My last ride drank a gallon of liquid in the AM for an afternoon ride and
Yup pee stops happened

Nothing like bombing down a hill and you gotta take  a pi  . ....  UGH !!😝

Gonna re-think liquid plans 🤔

I have tried the " Hammer gels "

I do like them - they def. give you the energy !

Is your mom from the Permian Basin? The area around Midland-Odessa. The creosote bush gives off that smell.
Panhandle myself. Hot dry summer, and smells like feed lots or hog farms these days.

She went to High School in the 50's in Spur, and lived around the Midland/Odessa area for some time.

Her father was in the oil industry, managed drilling crews for while, then bought a truck. Guess at the time hauling drilling equipment around was the better money. So, they moved around a lot. In those days, outside of town, it was nothing but trailers and trailer parks.

Later in life, grandma lived in Levelland, outside of Lubbock and used to run a cross roads restaurant called the Spot. Of course the chicken fried steak was delightful.

My mother ended up going to work for American airlines when she was 20, met some clown from South Carolina in the Air Force stationed at Reece Air Force base in Lubbock. The rest is history.

As the story goes, he told her his father was big in textiles. Oh yeah, he was a printer at the Bleachery in Rock Hill.  Grin

Although, they sent me out there occasionally in my youth. To me growing up in Atlanta and Charlotte, it was sort of like visiting a different world. The 70's were cowboys and dances/rodeos every Saturday night. I was enamored with the place.   Smiley
Although I went through there a few times in the 90's, I haven't been back in a while. I'm sure it's changed a lot. The coffee and water in Pecos has to be the worst ever.
