I'm not the expert on this but, I believe it gets updated when a volunteer opens and closes the gate. I know it looks like it is closed more than it is open but the status does change to match real time gate conditions. I have been riding there lately and have been watching the trail status a lot.

It does stay closed after a rain longer than other trails in the area and the jump lines are closed until the starting deck project is complete.
