At Thursday night’s monthly meeting, Trips For Kids Charlotte presented the Tarheel Trailblazers with a $5,000 donation. Trips For Kids board members Paula Fricke (President), Dempsey Miller, Dick Winters, Glenn Christenson and Harry Johnson personally attended the meeting to make the presentation of the check.
As many of you know, Trips for Fids Charlotte is a local non-profit organization that provides opportunities to gets kids from fragile neighborhoods into the woods on mountain bikes throughout the greater Charlotte area. They have several other related programs to support the kids including “Earn a Bike”, “Donate a Bike”, and they are now even starting biking excursions to the mountains for their more experienced riders!
We have had the pleasure of working with TFK on several projects over the last few years and realize that our missions are very well aligned. At the presentation, TFK board member and Treasurer, Harry Johnson, said that without the efforts of the Trailblazers, the TFK mission would not be possible and the TFK board wanted to express their gratitude and support for our work. We couldn’t be more pleased to be associated with the TRK organization and look forward to continuing to work with them.
Not only is this an extremely generous donation to receive from another non-profit, but this is TFK’s
first ever donation to another organization. We are humbled to be the first recipient of a donation from this fine organization and are sincerely grateful for TFK’s generosity. We pledge to use these resources to continue to build and maintain quality trails for our community.
On behalf of our executive officers and extended board, I would like to ask all of the Charlotte area mountain bikers to join us in thanking Trips For Kids Charlotte for this great honor. Please let them know how much we appreciate this wonderful donation. Among other ways, please
don’t forget to donate your used bikes to the TFK’s Re-Cyclery at 512 E. 15th Street in Charlotte (2-3 blocks NE of I-277 off of N, Davidson St., right next to uptown).
Wow! Is this cool or what!!
Don’t forget – TFK has a massive mural painting project at their Re-Cyclery headquarters this April 16 and 17th. This will be a real fun family event. Help ‘em adorn the side of their building with a paint by numbers mural. (You might even get to paint Flying Elvis!)
