Trips For Kids Donates $5,000 to Trailblazers!!

At Thursday night’s monthly meeting, Trips For Kids Charlotte presented the Tarheel Trailblazers with a $5,000 donation. Trips For Kids board members Paula Fricke (President), Dempsey Miller, Dick Winters, Glenn Christenson and Harry Johnson personally attended the meeting to make the presentation of the check.

As many of you know, Trips for Fids Charlotte is a local non-profit organization that provides opportunities to gets kids from fragile neighborhoods into the woods on mountain bikes throughout the greater Charlotte area. They have several other related programs to support the kids including “Earn a Bike”, “Donate a Bike”, and they are now even starting biking excursions to the mountains for their more experienced riders!

We have had the pleasure of working with TFK on several projects over the last few years and realize that our missions are very well aligned. At the presentation, TFK board member and Treasurer, Harry Johnson, said that without the efforts of the Trailblazers, the TFK mission would not be possible and the TFK board wanted to express their gratitude and support for our work. We couldn’t be more pleased to be associated with the TRK organization and look forward to continuing to work with them.

Not only is this an extremely generous donation to receive from another non-profit, but this is TFK’s first ever donation to another organization. We are humbled to be the first recipient of a donation from this fine organization and are sincerely grateful for TFK’s generosity. We pledge to use these resources to continue to build and maintain quality trails for our community.

On behalf of our executive officers and extended board, I would like to ask all of the Charlotte area mountain bikers to join us in thanking Trips For Kids Charlotte for this great honor. Please let them know how much we appreciate this wonderful donation. Among other ways, please don’t forget to donate your used bikes to the TFK’s Re-Cyclery at 512 E. 15th Street in Charlotte (2-3  blocks NE of I-277 off of N, Davidson St., right next to uptown).

Wow! Is this cool or what!!

Don’t forget – TFK has a massive mural painting project at their Re-Cyclery headquarters this April 16 and 17th. This will be a real fun family event. Help ‘em adorn the side of their building with a paint by numbers mural. (You might even get to paint Flying Elvis!)

I've stated it in the past and I'll state it again. While working away from Charlotte for 14 months I became ever more impressed with the Trailblazers work. While there are good hard working groups in other areas I feel that the Trailblazers are one of the best and it is showing in the recognition the group is getting.Smiley

Re:      Trips For Kids Donation to the Tarheel Trailblazers

Dear Paula:

On behalf of the Executive Officers, extended board and the entire membership of the Tarheel Trailblazers, I want to thank you and the Trips For Kids Board of Directors for your marvelous donation to the Tarheel Trailblazers.  Not only are we extremely grateful for your generosity, we are truly honored and privileged to be chosen to receive the first community donation that your organization has made.

The several opportunities we have had to work on community projects with TFK over the past few years has made us realize that our missions are very closely aligned. We couldn’t be more pleased to be associated with the TFK organization and we look forward to continuing to work with you to meet our mutual goals. The Executive Officers and I pledge that we will be good stewards, using your donation directly in furtherance of providing our community with the best possible opportunities to enjoy mountain biking.

It really was a thrill to have Glenn, Dempsey, Dick and Harry and you at our meeting on Thursday to present your check. This really means a lot to our organization and I can’t thank you enough.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you ever have any questions about any of the activities undertaken by the Trailblazers or how we may assist you in any way.

Sincerely,

TARHEEL TRAILBLAZERS

That's very impressive.  It's good to know that they are in a position to donate to another group.
