I have always ridden ergo grips but have decided I want to change to a standard grip.  Anyone have any recomendations on what is the best.

Comes down to what benefit your after...  Want simplicity and bling?  Pick your favorite lock-on grip and ride on happy.  Want light weight and are more of a "racer" mentality?  Get some ESI racer's edge grips.

ODI Rogue (or ODI Ruffian if you like thinner BMX style grips)

Since you are coming from Ergons...go with the ODI rogue's or OURY slip-on grips.  They are nice-n-cushy and have a larger diameter.

Im currently using the slip-on OURY grips.  Make sure to use some denatured alcohol or good cleaner when you install.

OUry also makes Lock-ons. That's what I use. I like a chunky grip.

Those chunky ones look pretty interesting.  You can even go EXTRA chunky.

I prefer the ODI Ruffian on all of my bikes because of the low profile and feel but I run Rogues on my hardtail and they are nice as well and provide more cushioning.

I'm not familiar with some of the other suggestions but ODI grips get better as they wear in... Favorite grips are 3 year old Ruffians.

OURY lock ons.  I like that they are thicker and they last forever.

I'll throw in another vote for the ODI rogue, but with a warning: they suck if you ride without gloves. I'd guess the normally inferior ruffian model would be better in that case.

+1 for ODI rogues...

The ESI's are sweet too but you cant beat a lock-on for ease of install and no slipping. When I tried out the extra chunky they still werent thick enough for me. The Rogues just fit my hand better. Good thing about lock-ons is whenever the grip wears out you just have to buy a replacement grip, not the lock rings. The lock rings come in tons of fancy colors too...even Ano-blue for folks who have to have color coordinated bits on their bike...cough, cough, gravitythief, cough, cough

Rode ergons for years and still use if endurance rides. But moved to ODI lock ons and love them. Also liked ESI extra Chuncy as that was my pre ergons.

ODI Ruffian lock-on, usually.  Tried the thinner ESI grips but man, they get torn up on the end when you either crash (don't hardly do) or lay the bike down.  Riding with the ODI Vans grip now and pleased with them so far.  The Ruffian's are still my all time fave.

Random...but has anyone ever thought about wrapping multiple layers of thick padded tape to make a grip?  Something like tennis wrap tape?  I would think you could make a nice cush grip with a large OD.

Just a thought....no clue if its a good idea.
