.  to offer my two cents, i re-learned how to ride about three years ago on a 10 year old gary fisher hard tail (sweet bike, i know) taking it out to the Research Park Trail (aka The Gauntlet).  first time i rode it i walked my bike at least 12 different times, thought i was going to die an equal number of times and finally finished over an hour later (yeah, three mile trail).  that made me mad alright, but not mad at the trail, mad at myself for being weak.  6 months later after finally conquering that trail and cutting my time to about 24 min/lap, i said thanks to the builder of the trail for making something that made me better.

Keep on rocking in the free world.

"The Gauntlet".   LOL.  I like that, Just made my day.

Per the IMBA website

4. Evaluate Difficulty Relative to Local Trails.

Trails should be rated relative to other trails in the region. Don't evaluate each trail in isolation. Consider all the trails in a region and how they compare to one another. This will help you rank the relative difficulty of each trail and will help trail users select an appropriate route. Trails will rate differently from region to region. A black diamond trail in one region may rate as a blue square in another region, but the ratings should be consistent locally.

This might be the wrong place but does anyone have any suggestions how to convert my 26er into a two-niner?  I am trying to keep up with KevinB and now realize it's all about the wheel size.

All you need is a Sawzall and gorilla tape.     Oh, and a spoke stretcher.

I'm not.

I look more like a ballerina going down the trail.

I don't like feeling like I'm a Gerbil on a mouse wheel. Or feeling like a human bowling ball when I'm grinding out my favorite multi-use trail. I have more fun that way and it's a whole lot safer.

No serious injuries either. That's important in my view. Going fast is for closed courses. That's if your smart. I can't speak for everybody. Just sayin'.

Just one leaf? or leaves?  If you had to pick one leaf's life to matter would it be one at fisher?  Personally I would choose a hydrangea leaf at poston

In the old days there weren't any trail ratings. Heck, there weren't any mountain bike trails either. You either bushwached your own or followed some old deer run or hiking trail off the parkway.

No lightweight bikes, no suspensions, no cell phones, no GPS, and no helmets.. You spent almost as much time carrying the bike as you did riding it.. Yep, those were the days..

You went around every turn like there might be a 300 ft. cliff to fall off of. Sometimes there was.

I recall one day talking with a guy at work about the trail and i was trying to describe the location, he finally caught on what i was referring to and was like 'do you mean Research Park Trail?'  i kindly replied 'no, it's The Gauntlet'.  Memories.

I'm in no condition to ride...wait! I shouldn't listen to myself, I'm drunk!

Sawzall and large monkey take I have.  Where does one acquire a spoke stretcher?  Does The PyscoPath perform such services?  Also will it be Fish Stix Green Trail approved?

Check out Lowes for the spoke stretcher. Should be over by the left handed smoke shifters and garden snipes. Smiley

All warranties are null and void once green trail is attempted. Nothing is green trail approved.

Now I have heard rumors of 1 guy that did make it through the whole trail. But he had an unobtainium frame, shock filled with unicorn sweat and had a road tire mounted inside his mountain bike tire filled to exactly 88 psi and then filled the MTB tire with gargoyle farts. But that's just folklore.

OP - if you are still reading this, I am very surprised Jetton ( (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)) hasn't been mentioned yet.

It's a 1 mile beginner trail in Cornelius, this is where I took my wife when she was first starting to mountain bike. After riding here for about a month she was ready to try Fisher.

Damnit KevinB, STOP sharing my secrets!  It's taken years to perfect that formula. And it's 88.31 psi. Do you know how hard it is to capture gargoyle farts and unicorn sweat?
