I know it's a long way away, but this sounds like a pretty bad ass event!

From the link here: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
On to the main event! Saturday morning will kick off with a grueling 50-miler with a twist, for the first time ever, competitors will be able to ride non-mountain bike trails at the Greenway. This means be prepared to rough it through horse trails (potentially carrying your bike at times), up stairs, and over bridges. There will be no pre riding the course and we will not reveal the course map until the Friday of the race - this is not for the faint of heart.

so who's with me on this?!

This looks interesting! They are going to use a lot of trails that are typically just for hiking and horses....Some of those hiking trails will be a hoot to ride!

Interest def piqued.

Like the idea of a 50 miler on trails we don't normally ride.

Meh (once again) on the classes.  Open male, open female, and master's 40+.

*complained the 50 year old man riding a single speed*

I’d be happy with a SS category. Sadly it would probably just be the two of us.

I see mention of beer so there is that even.
I did not see the entry fee or classes info.  Did I miss it?

Anybody know if they are going to do a 25 mile option on Saturday as the header seems to indicate?

I'm sure Andy Barnes, Tsui, and I would like to add to the mix in the SS category, if they were to run one. I'd like to find a way to play hookey from the bike shop for this one!

Well, there are shenanigans involved for time Saturday night.  I'm better at those than I am bike racing at this point.

Looks like it could be fun and a challenge, unless the miles of trail we have never ridden are horse paths. The new bike trails out there are pretty mundane compared to the old stuff, so if the horse paths are boring then it wouldn't be worth it. The hiking trails would definitely be a blast, but not having a race trail map until the day before seems kinda lame to me.

Anyone have a horse and can do some recon?

having a map would just make people antsy to ride the trails they aren't allowed to, so i get it. just show up and be surprised, isn't that half the fun anyway?!

Completely agree. I have to tip my hat to Springs for the show they are putting on.  Beer, camping, bikes on the horse trails, live music,  and shenanigans.  This isn't the Springs that I remember.  I might sign up for the whole shebang as it sounds like its gonna be a hoot.

I did the Fonta Flora Barnburner in Morganton last year.   Finishing at the brewery was enough incentive to get me out retirement.  I figure I'm good for one event a year and this might be the one for 2019....

Get Joe T, Rich D, etc, a case of Red Bull and a bottle of vodka and this is a done deal.

The Redbull and vodka was MarkB's thing who also was a Springs regular.  Plenty of nostalgia for sure.

The band seems suitably weird.
