We're having a socially distanced work day this coming Saturday, November 14th.  We'll meet at 10am at the entrance to the jump/flow lines. We're gonna fix the drainage/puddle near there and tackle other maintenance too.

Let's kick off the new year by adding some singletrack to Salisbury Community Park.  We've gotten the ok to extend trail east of Casey Jones between the RR track and the creek.  We've flagged and started clearing two loops that'll add about 3/4 of a mile and we need your help to bring it online.  We're going to have socially distanced work days every every Saturday and Sunday remaining in January, so please come out and join us when you have the chance. There's also an opportunity to add even more trail this year, so stay tuned and sharpen your shovels.

I can't seem to upload the flyer, each work day is 10a-1p and we'll meet by the trail entrance near the lake and the bridge into Casey Jones.  Hope to see folks out there.

I rode this the other Saturday. It’s definitely new trail but fun. I especially like the crossings. I was planning on coming out but proceeded to eat it randomly and mostly just sore around the ribs and not recovering as quickly as I would like—I’ll be out helping some this year for sure. Salisbury Community Park has come a long way the last few years, and keeps getting better.

Apologies for the late notice, but we're having a work day on Saturday 3/6 from 10a-1p.  We'll meet at the lake parking lot.  On tap: drain clearing, working on the new loops east of Casey Jones, and scoping some re-routes to meld the Thunder Road & Turkey loops together. Bring your favorite tools and PPE.  Black tie is optional, but there may be a writer and photographer there for an upcoming Salisbury the Magazine article.

Also of note: Let's Ride Rowan, a community cycling event will be held at SCP on 3/20. Here's a link to more info: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links).  And here's some coverage in the Salisbury Post about it: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links).  Love to see this kind of thing happening, this is how building trail translates into building community.

Guess I missed posting the last few work days, but we're continuing the process of combining the Thunder Road and Turkey Loops into the new Thunder-Turkey Trail.  We'll be working the next two Saturdays, 5/15 & 5/22 from 10am-1pm.  We'll meet at the project area which mostly lies between the fire road and the main trail's climb by the range.  BYO tools, water, etc. to take out stumps, fill holes and create more trail!

We figure this project will add about a half mile of new trail to SCP and make for a more coherent trail system.  Look for more work days in June/July as we're about to launch into creating a mile of new beginner trail in the woods just NW of the main trailhead.

As always, keep up with trail status and ongoing projects by following Salisbury Community Park/SCPMTB on Facebook.

We've got a busy winter and spring ahead at Salisbury Community Park.

To kick the new year off, we're having a work day on Sunday, January 16th, from 10-1p.  We'll be either doing some hand work on the what will be the new green trail or hitting some spots on the main that need attention. Bring your favorite trail building tools and we'll meet at the main trailhead.

We're also planning to be out each of the remaining weekends in January too as we want to open up some new trail and prep the other trails for an upcoming NICA race in early April. Any NICA parents are welcome to join us and learn more about the trails.  We're really looking forward to local trail builder Joseph Litiker, of Black Diamond Trail Designs fame, sculpting some dirt for the green trail and we need some hands to help do finish work and re-naturalize the area.

Come on out and we'll also talk about the Thread Trail connector and some upcoming and potential scout projects (changing stall, bridge, maps).

Slight change of plans due to the forecasted winter weather on Sunday. I've got my doubts about the current forecast of 10+ inches of snow, but something seems likely to fall from the sky so we've shifted the upcoming work day at SCP to this Saturday 1/15 from 10a-1p.

Also, we set the dates for the rest of January: Saturday 1/22 and Sunday 1/30, both also 10-1.  Meet at the main trail head.

This Sunday 1/30 from 10a-1p we'll start the hand work on the new green trail that Joseph Litaker/Black Diamond has been sculpting.  For this one and the next few work days in February we'll be compacting, tweaking drainage, taking out roots, and generally re-naturalizing where the machine has been.  Bring your favorite hard rake, shovel, tamper, and root removal implements as we work through the new trail.  It already looks like it's gonna be fun to ride. Meet at the main trail head.

Future dates for work days will be the next three Saturdays and then a Sunday, Feb 5, 12, 19, and 27, all 10a-1p.

Bumping this one in hopes that more support will come out this Saturday, Feb 19th for the work day on the new green trail at SCP. 10-1, meet at the main trail head.  Our trail builder Joseph has been making hay this week and we're now well behind him in terms of the finishing hand work along the trail so we could really use the help.

Also, we're planning for more work days in March...Saturdays 3/5 and 3/12 are now on the calendar.

In related news, we met with a boy scout this week that wants to build a bridge to replace the eroding gas line crossing.  More to come on that as some re-routing will be needed to make it all work.

Can't seem to get the attachment thing to work, so I can't post a photo of a sweet new berm along the trail.  Come on out and see it for yourself with your favorite trail tool.

sounds like nice project going on!  Did the city hire Black Diamond to do the machine work (with volunteers doing finish), or did volunteers raise money to hire Black Diamond?

I'm a project delivery nerd so curious

The city hired Black Diamond with volunteers to finish.  If I followed things correctly, the funding was apparently from the Thread Trail folks to the county and from the county to the city for this project which also includes enhancement/extension of the little piece of the Thread Trail that's at SCP which, when finished, will deliver one to the trail head for the MTB trails.

Quick update for any following along, the forecast for this Sunday's 2/27 workday is looking wet.  We're gonna keep it on the schedule though it may limit what we can do that day.  As a bonus, we're also going to be out on Saturday 2/26 from 10-1, meet at the main trail head, bring your favorite tools, etc. Will provide updates on a bridge and a new park map to those that come.

That's awesome!  It's a big deal when cities hire professional builders.

Pro Build with volunteer finish is nice for budgets, but definitely still plenty of work for volunteers.  Post up pics when you guys get some finish work done

Thanks for everyone's assistance, the trails at SCP are looking good and riding great. We're going to keep working to make them better and what better day than National Trails Day to give back to the trails at Salisbury Community Park.

National Trails Day Project: 10-1 Sat 6/4 meet at the main trailhead

We’ve got a few things on tap for National Trails Day, (1) working on re-routes of the main trail near where the new bridge will be built as an Eagle Scout project, benching, grubbing and making new trail tasks, (2) spreading gravel along the Thread Trail extension, we’ve got some mechanical assistance lined up but will need some rakes to finish, and (3) re-naturalizing disturbed areas along the jump/flow lines.

Also, I'd upload pics of the new mile long Green Briar trail referenced above if I could figure out how, but just come give it a spin, clockwise seems to be the preferred direction to make the most out of the limited elevation profile.

In case anyone is available, we're having another work day on Saturday, July 30th at SCP.  The focus will be a eagle scout bridge building project and associated trail re-routes on both sides of the creek below the dam.  This is all an effort to replace the eroding gas-line crossing.  If we complete the bridge, we'll also be abandoning trail in the gas-line ROW.  There's a good chance that the work will also continue on Sunday, so feel free to drop by anytime this weekend if you have the chance.

We've got several work days coming up at the SCPMTB trails as we get things ready for the NICA race and spring riding.  Meet at the trail hub where N Main and Greenbriar start and the Thread Trail ends.  Bring your favorite trail building tools, gloves, sturdy shoes, drinks, etc.

Sunday 2/25 10a-1p - we'll mostly continue to focus on N Main, but may also hit the downhill on S Main.

Sunday 3/10 9a-12p - NICA special, hoping to draw teams out to work on the trail in the morning so they can ride the course in the afternoon before race weekend (3/16-17).  Hoping to do a bit of berm building on N Main and improve its run down to the bridges.

Saturday 3/23 9a-12p - NICA special for their Trail Week.  Projects still tbd pending what does or doesn't get done in previous weeks though spots on Casey Jones & New Potato Caboose are likely candidates.

C'mon out and lend a hand.
