Looking for some new shoes for the steed...2.6 to 2.8...looking for suggestions...

Ride locally, with the occasional venture out to Pisgah.

Old topic i know but....Vittoria, Michelin and the latest Specialized have been good for me.

I'm riding in Pisgah frequently and the Specialized Butcher / Eliminator combo that came on my Stumpy Evo have been very good so far.  I switch to the Michelin Wild Enduro or Vitoria Motta in wet or winter
  
Ross, Bridgestone MB2(s), Cannondale, Mongoose, Stumpumper(s), my own steel hardtail(s).....looking for the right 29'er

kenda booster pro for around here has been my favorite tire so far.

Butcher Front + Ground Control Rear (new version) - Hard to beat prices to performance ratio of specialized these days
Minion DHF Front 2.5 3C + Maxxis Dissector Rear (Dual compound or 3C) - not cheap, but great

I've liked the Michelin tires recently but they are hard to get.  Wild AM2 and Force AM2 rear

I'd also stay away from the higher volume tires if you are somewhat aggressive.  Too much squish will lead to tire squirm.   I'd stick with 2.4 and 2.5's max.
